Tips for creating effective wayfinding signage

An important factor that shouldn’t be overlooked when planning your event signage is creating wayfinding signage. This helps the public to navigate safely around the area and to get from point A to point B smoothly. This form of directional signage is pretty straightforward, however, some people can get caught up in creating an elaborate creative to accompany their signage that often leaves people confused. We offer our tips below for creating simple yet effective wayfinding signage that will ensure your next event runs smoothly.

Wayfinding signage tips:

Choose the right substrate

For your signage to be clear and serve its purpose of offering directions, we recommend using aluminium composite panel signage. Aluminium composite panel signage is a high-quality print option that is also incredibly durable. It’s rustproof and waterproof, making it a perfect option for outdoor event signage. Your directions will stay intact no matter the weather so that the public can navigate around the event without a problem. If you’re after a cheaper alternative, then our corflute can be used for wayfinding signage. It’s lightweight and can be applied virtually anywhere easily, however, it doesn’t offer the same high print quality as aluminium composite panel signage.

Font and colour selection need to complement each other

The right fonts and colours will ensure that your wayfinding signage is easy to read by anyone at your event. Avoid white font on light-coloured backgrounds, as these will not stand out and be hard to read. Clear, simple fonts like Arial will read well on wayfinding signs, and when complemented by bold bold-coloured backgrounds, they will stand out and help eventgoers find their way around your event.

Less is more

Don’t overcrowd your wayfinding signage with elaborate artwork or too many colours. This needs to be simple to read and provide straightforward directions for eventgoers to follow. The last thing you want is people crowding around wayfinding signage trying to work out where they need to be. Use clear, concise directions accompanied by relevant symbols on your event signage.
