The Power of the Right Font on Your Billboard Signage

Print advertising is all about getting the most out of the written word. While it may seem innocuous, the font you choose is a key tool in getting your message out there. Striking a balance between clarity and personality is important, especially for billboard signage. From printing banner mesh to helping design the perfect image for signage, we at Mesh Direct are here to help you perfect that ratio for all your billboard signage needs.

Instant Understanding

Word economy is a top factor in billboard signage. Choosing Sans Serif-style font (a font lacking the little hats and feet on each letter) will give your copy a clean and modern feel that, most importantly, is instantly legible. Cursive-style Script fonts embody creativity and elegance, making them perfect for a signature logo or brand iconography. However, they lack the crucial instant impact factor that you need for effective billboard signage.

Your Font Should Match Your Brand

The font you use is as much a part of your brand as your products, imagery and uniforms are. Next to clear communication, the secondary function of your font is to give customers an understanding of what your brand is about. For example, the Serif font is traditional with tops and feet. This style is considered classic, carrying a sense of respectability with them. Sans Serif is stripped back and minimal. This is literally Serif with the tops and feet removed. This effect creates a font that is minimal, modern and easy-going. Alternatively, if your brand is quirky and bold, a novelty font will turn heads and stick in customers minds. Be judicious with your usage, as these font styles are flashy but lack authority.

Mixing Typeface

Don’t feel pressured into picking and sticking with your fonts. Mixing them up is an easy way to give your message energy and showcase your brand’s personality. Some playful combinations include choosing multiple typefaces with similar proportions and used to write different lines on your billboard, or one typeface for your big heading, and one typeface for your message.
