The Project

One of our favourite jobs from 2023 involved Mesh Direct being approached by Scape, Australia’s largest student accommodation provider. Scape, known for providing both living and learning spaces across the country, had heard about a similar job Mesh Direct had completed and wanted us to bring our expertise to their latest project.

The Challenge

This job was incredibly complicated. The space featured a multi-layered ceiling with different shapes, sizes, and depths, and both indoor and outdoor areas. Scape had run a competition for Indigenous artists, and the winning entry was an incredible piece by a local artist that needed to be reproduced on a large scale while ensuring all the various pieces aligned perfectly. Additionally, the installation had to take place in a fully functioning and busy student accommodation, presenting significant access challenges. Time frames were also tight, adding to the complexity of the project.

The impressive end results from the Scape Ceiling Self-Adhesive Vinyl project.

The Product

We opted to use high tac Self-Adhesive Vinyl (aka SAV and sometimes referred to as a decal). SAV is a super versatile solution that adheres to any smooth clean surface, including walls, pillars, and ceilings, making it perfect for this project. It’s a great alternative to paint or traditional wallpaper materials as it can be removed without causing damage.

The Solution

The Mesh Direct team spent a considerable amount of time meticulously overlaying and ensuring the artwork was situated in the correct position for printing to guarantee alignment across the various surfaces. Our installation team worked through the night to minimise disruption to the residents. Additionally, we carefully prepared the surfaces, removing old paint to create the perfect canvas for the SAV, ensuring the longevity of the final results.

The Result

The final results from the Scape Ceiling Self-Adhesive Vinyl project were stunning. The Indigenous artwork was reproduced beautifully, transforming the space and creating a vibrant and culturally rich environment. Both Scape and the students were thrilled with the results, praising the quality of the work and the minimal disruption during installation. This project was a testament to Mesh Direct’s ability to handle complex installations with precision and care, delivering outstanding results under challenging conditions.
